About
Less than three months after the opening of the Utoro Peace Memorial Museum in 2022, driven by the belief that “global warming will not wait,” we launched a project to install solar panels despite still struggling to establish our operating structure.
Installing solar panels is one of the increasingly important measures to mitigate climate change. Those who suffer the earliest and most severe impacts are people in vulnerable positions, such as developing countries and impoverished communities. For Utoro, which has also long been placed in a vulnerable position, reducing its contribution to this situation and helping to lessen the number of people displaced by climate change is a vital practice.
Moreover, producing and using our own electricity is also a way to protect the Utoro we have finally secured, and to safeguard it for the future.
This Utoro Peace Memorial Museum Sun Project was carried out in collaboration with the Citizen Renewable Energy Project in Kyoto. Thanks to the support of many citizens, the installation of solar panels was realized in January 2023. The brochure introduces the background of the project, as well as the lighting ceremony and talk session.
