Q

What airfield construction is connected to Utoro’s history?

A

The Kyoto Military Airfield — a wartime state project built in the 1940s. Korean laborers were brought to this site under colonial labor mobilization to construct the airfield. When Japan’s defeat ended the project, the workers had nowhere to return and remained in the laborers’ barracks on site.
That settlement became the Utoro neighborhood. Traces of the original airfield plan — including a nearby irrigation channel — are still visible today.
