The Utoro Peace Memorial Museum is a museum operated by the power of citizens, without support from the national or local government. We warmly invite many citizens to contribute—starting with whatever you can do.
What Your Support Makes Possible

In addition to permanent and special exhibitions, the Utoro Peace Memorial Museum offers over a hundred group training sessions and individual tours annually, dispatches guest speakers, and collaborates with many organizations on traveling exhibitions.
All of these efforts are rooted in the lived history of Utoro, with the goal of promoting human rights, peace, and the value of coexistence.

Through regularly held sessions under the theme #LearningForAll, we offer opportunities to learn about the history and human rights issues faced by Korean residents in Japan, as well as broader human rights concerns related to the Korean Peninsula and Japanese society.

We support the activities of the Utoro Nongak Group, which has played a vital role in the movement to protect the Utoro community.

We host hands-on cultural events (irregularly scheduled) that introduce Korean culture through workshops on traditional instruments and trying on ethnic Korean clothing.

As a museum rooted in the local community, our front plaza is open as a play space for neighborhood children. We also provide special support during long school breaks—like serving shaved ice in summer.

The museum’s front plaza and 1st-floor community space are designed as gathering places where Utoro residents, visitors, neighbors, and volunteers can interact and share meals together.

The tradition of community barbecue gatherings that grew out of the Utoro movement continues today in the museum’s plaza, offering opportunities to build connection through shared meals (held irregularly).

The Mire Festival featured performances by local high school students and students from Korean schools in Kyoto. These events foster community bonds and will continue in the future.

We work in collaboration with student groups and artists, such as the Talorum Theater Troupe, to host exhibitions and events that encourage free and open expression.
